Healthy snacking time!!

Why eating small meals and snacking throughout the day is advisable for WEIGHT MANAGEMENT??

Well, eating small, portioned meals and snacks throughout the day revvs up your metabolism and thus, you digest food better and convert more into energy!

Healthy snacks to consider:
- Fruit
- Carrot/ celery sticks
- Natural peanut butter (1 tablespoon)
- Nuts (unsalted)
- Granola bars (not really advisable)
- Yoghurt (low fat or fat free)
- Greek yoghurt (much better than the usual yoghurt due to its high protein low carb content)
- Cottage cheese
- Protein shakes
- Oatmeal (A personal fave because it helps you stay full, get nice muscles fast and it's sooo easy to make!)

Remember to drink water throughout the day, it's the cheapest and best beverage your body can have.

Get your butt to the gym, lady!

How many times have you told yourself "I'll go to the gym.....later."

Well, what is "later"? 10 minutes? 1 hour? 2 days? 2 weeks? 3 months? 1 year?

I'm not saying that I have NEVER said those words, but once I get myself to the gym, I exit the place extremely satisfied!

Tips to kick start a healthy exercise routine (Adapted from Alicia Marie's column in Oxygen Magazine July 2009):

1. Get moving!
Start off slow, like a 30 minute walk in the park or on the pavement just by your house. All you need is water, good pair of shoes (sneakers are fine), and an ipod/friend/dog for company.

For something more intensive and indoors, try this routine.

10 push ups
10 crunches
10 jumping jacks

Repeat this circuit 5-7 times. (Remember to warm up first! It'll only take a few minutes.)

2. Eat frequently and eat clean!

3 complete meals and 2-3 snacks throughout the day. Who says dieting means you must go hungry?? You'll just feel full once you're done with your day! (Try eating apples or roasted unsalted almonds for snacks)

What is eating "clean"?
Eating clean means just eating things that are grilled, steamed, stir fried in monounsaturated oils, and things that grow from trees or are from animals naturally. Nothing fried, processed or overly seasoned with salt, sugar or MSG!!!

Drink green tea/water daily.

Still hungry at night? Eat an egg OR cottage cheese.

3. Get support from people around you.

Found no one? Join a forum or form a weight loss club! That way, you can update your friends and have plenty of support to go on and on!

4. Out with that negative attitude!

When you're about to give in to an irresistable plate of fried noodles, stare at it and think "Do I have the choice to eat this or not? AM I GOING TO PUT CRAP INTO MY BODY AFTER I HAVE WORKED OUT SO HARD??"

DON'T EAT CRAP AND YOU WON'T LOOK LIKE CRAP!
